The Rookie season 7: what you need to know
The sixth season of The Rookie ended on a high note, leaving plenty of storylines to explore for the next season. ABC has renewed the series for a seventh season, ensuring fans have more adventures in Mid Wilshire for the 2024/2025 television season.
However, the new episodes will not air until mid-season, forcing fans to wait until 2025.
Despite this expectation, production is not slowing down.
Showrunner Alexi Hawley revealed to TV Line that production on season 7 will begin in early June, saying: “At the beginning of June, we go straight back to work.”
With production beginning so soon, the series will have enough completed episodes to guarantee an interruption-free season.
Even more intense intrigues
Season 7 of The Rookie promises to be bigger than the previous ones, with several major villains to manage. Jason would be the biggest threat, as he poses a danger to Bailey.
The season will feature more undercover stories, as Nyla is a seasoned undercover detective who has been greatly underutilized this season. Lucy has also become a great undercover resource.
Hawley spoke about exploring these characters, saying:
“Mekia does a great job with that and obviously infiltration is a key part of our show, Lucy is involved in that too.
So yeah, we’re definitely going to go that route in season 7.”
What is it about the Harper-Lopez duo that fans love? Hawley hinted that we’ll see more of this duo, saying, “I can do anything with them. That’s the joy with this cast and especially with them, they have such depth, they can play funny , they can play emotional, they can play stakes, they can break down a door All of that is a possibility, but yet they are very different people and very different characters.”
Hawley knows they “have some big challenges ahead after season six” and promises “an episode every week that will really keep you on the edge of your seat.”
