The franchise Shrek started in 2001, produced by DreamWorks Animation. Based on the children’s book by William Steig, it quickly won over audiences with its unforgettable characters and stories inspired by classic fairy tales. Mike Myers plays Shrek, Cameron Diaz plays Princess Fiona and Eddie Murphy lends his voice to the iconic Donkey.
The last film in the franchise, Shrek Forever After, was released in 2010. After two spin-offs devoted to Puss in Boots in 2011 and 2022, the return of Shrek is long overdue.
Fortunately, 2023 marked a new era with the announcement of a fifth Shrek film, scheduled for release in 2025, coinciding with that of GTA VI.
Donkey Solo Movie Announcement
During an interview to promote Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F on Netflix, Eddie Murphy not only discussed the fifth Shrek film, but also revealed that a Donkey solo film is in production. According to Murphy, the new Shrek movie began production about five months ago and the team is also working on the Donkey movie.
To date, no official release date has been communicated for the Donkey film, but impatience is growing among fans. New information will be shared as soon as it becomes available, so stay tuned to not miss any new adventures of Shrek and Donkey
