“Pamela Rose, the series”: The new adventure of detectives Bullit and Riper

Two decades have passed since the release of Eric Lartigau’s iconic film “But Who Killed Pamela Rose?” and today we find the legendary characters Richard Bullit and Douglas Riper in a whole new form of narration: “Pamela Rose, the series”. This production, available on Canal+ since November 20, 2023, promises a wave of offbeat humor characteristic of Kad Merad and Olivier Baroux in their respective roles.

A quest to restore their reputation

  • Agents seeking redemption and confronting their past mistakes.
  • Return to the field to foil the plans of an assassin targeting famous YouTubers.

The comical figures of the FBI, Bullit and Riper, play their last cards to avoid the wrath of a disciplinary commission, following a recent fiasco. Their mission is to track down a serial killer who is targeting influential YouTubers. This situation is their chance to prove their worth and escape possible sanctions.

The generational gap: Internet at the heart of the investigation

Facing the technological gap, these veterans of the law seem totally disoriented by internet culture and the phenomenon of YouTubers. They must nevertheless appropriate this digital universe to unravel the enigma of “who is murdering these web celebrities?”. Their dynamic is further tested with the introduction of Jessica Carson (played by Shirine Boutella), an FBI investigator who provides them with as much fresh support as they need.

Expand the universe through secondary characters

The transition to a series format opens the door for further character development, including secondary ones. Jessica Carson is one of them, she plays a new recruit to the FBI, navigating a professional environment where she must constantly compete with her male counterparts, often less competent.

Julien Rappeneau, already a screenwriter on the previous films, enriches the series with subtle references to American detective series, while infusing it with biting irony. The Kad and Olivier tandem brings its undeniable charm to continue to entertain the public with absurd and jubilant humor.

A police comedy that stands out

According to Philippe Congiusti, critic for RTS, the series makes an impeccable transition from cinema to television, driven by hilarious dialogues and current cultural references. We find there the satirical verve and the comic spirit of yesteryear, notably reminiscent of the works of “Nuls”, and in particular the film “The City of Fear”.

“Pamela Rose, the series – But who wants to kill the internet?!”, directed by Ludovic Colbeau-Justin and starring Kad Merad, Olivier Baroux and Shirine Boutella, is a first season of nine episodes which promises to leave its mark, exclusively on Canal+ since the end of November 2023.
