Prime Video presents “Nudes”, raising awareness about adolescent cyberbullying

Adapting a dark reality

Prime Video has revealed a new production entitled “Nudes”, an adaptation of the Norwegian work dealing with the burning issue of cyberbullying and revenge porn among young people. Available since February 1, this series, the fruit of the work of three French filmmakers, Sylvie Verheyde, Lucie Borleteau and Andréa Bescond, highlights the dangers that await adolescents on social networks.

Crossed vision of three directors

For this French adaptation, Prime Video turned to three creators recognized for their feminist commitment and their desire to tackle difficult subjects. Sylvie Verheyde, known for her films “Confession of a Child of the Century” and “Madame Claude”, Lucie Borleteau, acclaimed director for “Chanson Douce”, and Andréa Bescond, acclaimed for her work “Les Chatouilles”, have appropriated each a narrative component, marking it with their artistic imprint.

Three stories of turned upside down lives

The series unfolds through the journey of three young people:

  1. Victor (played by Baptiste Masseline), a medical student who finds himself involved in the distribution of intimate images of a fellow minor.
  2. Sofia (played by Léonie Dahan-Lamort), a talented and promising high school student, faced with the publication of her intimate moments with another young woman.
  3. Ada (played by Nelligan), a 14-year-old schoolgirl persuaded by a classmate to send him naked photos of herself.

An educational message

The ten episodes of the series, each lasting 26 minutes, go beyond the simple framework of entertainment to take on an educational role. Andréa Bescond and Sylvie Verheyde both highlight the gap between adults and adolescents, and the need for windows open to adolescent reality to encourage communication. This production does not intend to stigmatize but to raise awareness, reminding us that the sources of “leaks” are often none other than the victims’ entourage.

A denunciation of revenge porn

The series invites us to reflect on the deadly consequences of revenge porn, a phenomenon born from often recognized but misdirected feelings, which can devastate lives. Through the characters, “Nudes” calls to the awareness of young people, potential authors of such disclosures, about the extreme harmfulness of their actions.

Respect for privacy on set

When it comes to the treatment of young actors during delicate scenes, directors use intimacy coordinators, ensuring the safety and well-being of the performers.

An echo of reality

The filming resonated strangely with the real experience of Anna Biolay, an actress in the series, who suffered real attacks on her person. This painful combination of circumstances led to strong solidarity within the group of actors.

Put into perspective during “Safer internet day”

This program comes at the right time, anticipating “Safer internet day”, a global event for a safer internet. It punctuates a reality where, according to studies, the non-consensual distribution of intimate content is increasing, particularly affecting young people.
“Nudes”, through its interconnected stories and strategically thought-out distribution, hopes to raise awareness on an increasingly pressing issue in the digital age.
