Marvel breaks up with Jonathan Majors, the actor who played Kang, convicted of assaulting his former partner
Jonathan Majors, 34, was found guilty of assault and harassment by a jury in New York. This conviction, which will be handed down on February 6, could earn him up to one year in prison. Due to this affair, his film career is now compromised.
End of collaboration with Marvel Studios
Jonathan Majors played the character of Kang, considered the next big villain in Marvel films after Thanos. However, following his conviction, he will no longer be part of future productions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
A new setback for Marvel Studios
This separation with Jonathan Majors adds to Marvel Studios’ recent difficulties. Indeed, the departure of director Daniel Cretton from the project as well as the commercial disappointments of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania released in February and The Marvels released last November weakened the studio.
Marvel Studios will therefore have to readjust its plans for the next films and find a new actor to play the role of Kang. This decision will certainly impact future productions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
