Marvel: No season 3 for Loki? Will Kang change his face?
The MCU in suspense after “Loki”: what about the third season and Kang’s future?
If you haven’t yet watched the second season of “Loki,” beware, the following could reveal crucial plot elements.
Uncertainty surrounding a sequel to “Loki”
The Marvel Expanded Universe, via its Phase V, continues to weave the complex web of the Multiverse. On the Disney+ platform, the series “Loki” explored this dimension with a renewal that completely redistributed the narrative cards of the MCU. The conclusion of the second season of “Loki”, marked by the episode “Glorious Destiny”, could be a precursor to an upheaval in the shared Marvel universe. The question on everyone’s lips: will we see the creation of a third season for this iconic series?
At the end of the first season, we witnessed the disappearance of “He Who Remains”, the architect of the TVA (Tribunal des Variations Anachroniques), played by Jonathan Majors. This loss caused a temporal cataclysm, leading to a swarm of ramifications in the Multiverse and thus overloading the Temporization Center.
The famous Norse god, helped by Owen Wilson, Ke Huy Quan, Wunmi Mosaku and Sophia Di Martino, braved adversity to restore balance within the TVA. Despite Loki’s twists and turns and failed attempts to stop the disintegration of the Eternal Time Flow, he ultimately realizes that his “glorious destiny” is to become the new protector of the timelines. In doing so, he reorganizes the temporal branches into a tree-like structure, now sitting alone in his Citadel at the twilight of time.
From uncertainty to becoming a goalkeeper
The end of the second season leaves us with a Loki having found a new purpose, guardian of the timelines, a crucial function within the MCU. However, because of this masterful conclusion, screenwriter Eric Martin shared with CinemaBlend that the series was not intended to be expanded beyond the first two seasons, although it could branch out through other works Marvel.
A major character in the MCU, Loki has unparalleled knowledge of “He Who Remains” and Kang variants. It is reasonable to wonder about his future involvement in the MCU, with possibly appearances in films or other series to come, thus enriching Marvel’s overall narrative.
The fate of Jonathan Majors as Kang
The character played by Jonathan Majors is designated as the central antagonist of the MCU’s next narrative arcs, but the off-camera situation could influence this trajectory. The actor’s legal troubles and the accusations against him have put Marvel Studios in a delicate position.
Season 2 episodes of “Loki” were produced before this affair broke, making Majors’ presence in the series inevitable. Kevin Wright, executive producer, confirmed to Uproxx that filming took place according to the initial script, without reshoots. For now, Marvel Studios is studying possible options regarding the future of Kang and his interpreter.
Faced with this creative impasse and an industry affected by recent strikes, Marvel’s entire narrative is in full reevaluation. Fans therefore remain awaiting official communications from Disney and Marvel Studios to resolve these uncertainties. In the meantime, the entire second season of “Loki” remains accessible on Disney+ for those wishing to immerse or re-immerse themselves in the eventful adventures of the God of Mischief.
