‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Episode 2 Expected to Be Longest in HBO Series History
Fan of the “House of the Dragon” series?! The second episode of season 2 promises to be the longest in the history of the HBO series.
Westeros fans can mark their calendars: the episode first from season 2 of “House of the Dragon” will air on Sunday, June 16 at 9 p.m. on HBO and Max.
However, it is the second episode that holds the attention with an impressive duration of 72 minutes, the longest in the history of the HBO series.
Comparison with previous season
Despite the fact that season 2 has fewer episodes than the first season, each episode seems to want to offer more content.
The second episode, at 72 minutes, surpasses the series’ previous record by five minutes, which was 67 minutes in the first season.
This second season has to deal with many new characters, new dragons and big battle scenes to come.
The extra screen time is therefore necessary to develop these complex storylines. The plot picks up right after the events of the season 1 finale, where Rhaenyra Targaryen’s half-brother, Aemond, killed her young son Lucerys.
This tragic event sparked a war of succession between Rhaenyra and his half-brother Aegon II.
The second episode of season 2, which will air on Sunday, June 23, was directed by Clare Kilner. George R. R. Martin, the author of the book “Fire & Blood” on which the series is based, previewed the episode and called it “powerful, emotional and heartbreaking” in a post by December 2023 on its website.
