The end of ‘The Good Doctor’ after seven seasons
After seven seasons rich in emotions, of romance, of tragedy andhumor, the medical series The Good Doctor bows out. The end of the series, broadcast in two parts, was a mix of sadness And of hope, bringing Shaun Murphy’s story to a close emotional and positive.
The main points of the final episode

Shaun Murphy, played by Freddie Highmore, is upset by the new diagnosis of his mentor, the Dr. Glassman, whose cancer has returned and is now terminal.
Shaun discovers a potential treatment to prolong Glassman’s life, but the latter refuses, preferring to enjoy his last months with his loved ones.
Claire, for her part, suffers from postoperative infection severe. Before being placed in a coma to fight the infection, she confesses her love to Kalu. In order to save her, Shaun offers a unconventional treatment which jeopardizes his own medical career.
A leap into the future
In a time jump ten years old, Shaun is now chief of surgery at St. Bonaventure Hospital and gives a TED talk. Claire survived but lost an arm. Shaun and Claire co-direct the Dr. Alan Glassman Foundation for neurodiversity in medicine, honoring Shaun’s mentor.
One of the notable moments at the end of the series is Shaun’s decision to risk his career to save Claire.
The series’ creators, David Shore and Liz Friedman, explained that this decision represents the personal growth by Shaun. Although he couldn’t save Glassman, Shaun agrees to sacrifice what gives his life meaning to save his best friend.
Antonia Thomas, who plays Claire, also contributed greatly to this emotionally charged scene.
The showrunners emphasized that sacrificing Claire’s arm was important to the development of the narrative.
A future full of hope
The series concludes with Shaun surrounded by his loved ones, giving a TED conference inspiring. This last, moving scene perfectly sums up Shaun’s evolution and the reason for the series : showing that, despite challenges, there is always room for hope and personal growth.
