Audiences: Does Gérard Depardieu on France 2 do better than Cyril Hanouna? Decryption of Additional Investigation

Audience performance for the issue of “Complément d’investigation” dedicated to Gérard Depardieu

The latest delivery of “Complément d’investigation” on France 2 attracted the attention of viewers with a new documentary devoted to Gérard Depardieu. The broadcast on December 7, 2023 attracted a large audience, although it did not match the audience peak recorded the previous week with the number on Cyril Hanouna, famous host of “Touche pas à mon poste”.

Media resonance of the investigation into Depardieu

  • Captivated audience: The December 7 installment on the sacred monster of French cinema brought together 1.52 million of curious souls.
  • Market share : The magazine collected 18.5% of general audience share, with a peak among Women responsible for purchases under fifty (FRDA-50) where it records 13.3%.
  • Revealing images: The document was marked by archives of the actor’s controversial stay in North Korea in 2018, and by poignant testimonies accusing him of serious acts.

Comparison with previous broadcasts

Despite a remarkable audience, the program did not dethrone the historic number concerning Cyril Hanouna, which was viewed by a remarkable crowd of 3.03 million of viewers, capturing a market share of 32.9% on individuals aged four and over, and 30.8% on the FRDA-50. The latter marked an unprecedented peak since the creation of the show.

On the other hand, the subject on Depardieu significantly outperformed the magazine’s average seasonal audiences, which were previously dominated by the edition devoted to Sophia Chikirou, with 1.10 million spectators, and a market share of 14.4%.

The strong broadcast of its diversified investigations

“Complément d’investigation” started this season with varied themes and strong audiences:

  • File on Puy du Fou: 1.07 million of viewers
  • Investigation into the Leclerc group: 1.04 million of viewers

However, the sequence from the week preceding the issue on Depardieu, dealing with domestic violence among the police, marked a step backwards by attracting only 741,000 viewers and a market share of 8.9%, lower among the FRDA-50 with 7.7%.

In conclusion

France 2’s investigative program continues to arouse interest and debate with sensitive subjects and controversial personalities. “Complément d’investigation” confirms its place as a flagship program in the France 2 program schedule thanks to its regular performances, even if the number on Gérard Depardieu did not surpass the record audience obtained by the one devoted to Cyril Hanouna.
